This Independent Life: a blog

Throughout my career, I’ve always been told I wasn’t a good writer. But I have been told that I’m a good speaker. When I started This Independent Life, I didn’t know what the plan was. I still don’t know what the plan is. When you think about it, nobody truly knows what the plan is. I did know, however, that I wanted to create something which helped others get through, or avoid, the difficult situations that I’ve experienced in my life.

I believe the first step to making positive change is making people aware of an issue. I didn’t know the gravity and impact of the challenges I was experiencing until everything came crashing down. I also believe that sugar coating, beating around the bush, and putting on a front to appease a certain situation or audience is a huge barrier to progress. We need real talk, and I want to create this space to share my perspectives and ideas for what I think needs to be changed in our beautiful, but often difficult, world and lives.

Someone wise said to me “writing is just speaking through the written word”. It sounds obvious, but these words of encouragement were what I needed to take the plunge and start this blog. A blog that’s not riddled with fancy words, or one that overembellishes the topic at hand. One that gets to the point that can be read in a spare few minutes, but encourages people to consider their own perspective, to have the hard conversations, to learn something new, or to think about things in a different way.

Welcome to This Independent Life. I look forward to you joining the movement.
